Michael George Boulegeris was born January 4th1961 in New York, New York the son of George and Mary Boulegeris. Mike grew up in New Jersey and was a proud 1979 graduate of Somerville High School where he excelled in both football and tennis. However, Mike was best known for his scholarly pursuits and leadership. Mike graduated at the top of his class scholastically and he was given extensive responsibilities as a member of the Somerville High Student Council. Additionally, Mike was very passionate about his responsibilities as the editor-in-chief of Somerville High School’s newspaper, “The Valkyrie.” As a further testament to Mike’s leadership abilities, his classmates and the faculty selected him to be the student liaison to the board of education as well as the administration’s grievance committee. The New Jersey governor included Mike in a very exclusive group of rising leaders to attend the New Jersey Boys State in the summer of 1978. Yet above all his experiences in his formative years, Mike’s life of selfless service was a direct reflection of his Greek Orthodox faith. The qualities that Mike demonstrated as a cadet, officer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist were formulated in the humble teachings of God and his church.

Mike received a Congressional appointment to West Point from Millicent Fenwick, Congresswoman from New Jersey’s 5th District and joined the Class of 1983. Academically, Mike did quite well in his engineering courses and Eastern European and Soviet Union Studies. Owing to his instinctive leadership abilities, Mike rose to the rank of Cadet Captain and became the I-4 Company Commander. Mike worked very hard to make I-Beam the best company in the Corps, and was always willing to take time to help the academically challenged.

However, it was not all rules and regulations for Mike, a.k.a. “Bolo”, as he secretly had a penchant for Michael Jackson's album Thriller. We remember Mike dancing around the room to "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" and commenting how much he loved to dance. How does one pull off the strict persona of command and dancing to Thriller in the same day? The key was Mike’s ability to work hard balanced by engaging life every day all backed up by that big infectious smile. In his extracurricular time, Mike enjoyed spirited competition on the Debate Team. However, most importantly, Mike served four years in the Greek Orthodox Chapel Group. We remember many stories about Mike, but his mother Mary’s Greek dishes, above all, made the most lasting impression on I-4.

After Field Artillery Officer’s Basic Course at Fort Sill, Mike’s was assigned to 1st Battalion, 22nd Field Artillery, 1stArmored Division in Germany in 1984. Mike returned for the Officer Advanced Course and then on to Fort Benning to serve in the 2nd Battalion, 10th Field Artillery Battalion in 1987.

Mike resigned his commission in 1988 and pursued his passion for investments. It was this entrepreneurial move that would define a life of generosity and social initiatives. First, Mike established Boulegeris Investment Inc. in 1993 serving as the firm's president and Chief Investment Officer.  In 2009, Mike with his Managing Director Lester Breen published "Pheidippides, Dividends and Recovering Markets." Their point was that just as Pheidippides, in 490 B.C., ran 26 miles to Athens to announce the Greek triumph thus setting ancient Greece on the path to become a flourishing democracy, investors should stay the course and embrace the long-term, disciplined strategy of expanding dividend streams to see growth. What more cogent lesson would one expect from a modern Greek warrior-investor? Later, Mike co-founded MAP Pharmaceuticals Inc., a biopharmaceutical company that was acquired by Allergen, Inc. in March 2013.

As his success mounted, it was said that Mike used his time, talents, and resources to strengthen humanity through education. No example is more germane than Mike’s outstanding support of West Point. Thousands of future cadets will benefit from his contributions. He always took the time to speak with younger graduates and share his many experiences. Above all, Mike was a champion of the USMA Law Department. Mike personally funded the West Point Civil Rights Staff Ride, LW199, which is a unique interdisciplinary, immersive learning experience that takes rising Yearlings to the field of the pitched “battles” of the civil rights movement. Amongst other sites, the ride visits Thomasville, Georgia and the grave of Henry Ossian Flipper, Class of1877, the first African-American graduate of West Point. Mike was never one to forget a friend. After our classmate Bill Groeger died, Mike personally sponsored the CPT William G. Groeger Best Thesis Award given to the Cadet who demonstrated meritorious academic achievement in an independent law thesis program. Ever so conscientious, Mike called us not to seek donations, but to make sure that this was sufficient to honor our friend. To make the broadest impact possible across the department, Mike also sponsored the Department of Law Projects Day. Ultimately, Mike was recognized by the Association of Graduates with his induction into the Henry H. Hap Arnold Lifetime Giving Society for his extremely generous giving.

Mike was very generous outside of West Point as well. Among many other charities, Mike served as a Trustee of the Annunciation Cathedral Endowment Foundation of the Greek Orthodox Church in Atlanta.

Mike’s sudden passing greatly saddened his family, his classmates, his many friends, and associates. Mike was a man of common sense and uncommon kindness to his classmates and the Corps. We remember Mike as warm and easy to talk to, he lived a genuinely good life, and he was of great worth in the eyes of God.
